Earlier today I watched the homegoing of a preaching giant in Dr. A. Louis Patterson, Jr. I had the privilege of watching multiple seasoned preachers skillfully express and articulate themselves through the Scriptures. I felt a bit sad, as it seemed that all of the preaching giants of our age...the legendary voices that I, and so many others heard growing up that sparked a fire in us to grow up to be like them....all of them were either aging or dying. I wondered, where are the torch carriers for the future? Then, tonight I heard six powerful young preachers, none of them yet 35 years old (even with me being 34 lol), and I heard skill, gifting, biblical accuracy and depth, but the ability to unearth scripture and apply it to contemporary contexts. Most of all, there was humility and anointing. As Im sitting here thinking tonight, and winding down from a phenomenal worship experience, my faith is restored. The pulpit, the Gospel and the Church is in GREAT hands, based on the sample of up-and-comers I heard tonight. Felt like I was walking along the Emmaus Road...
