Earlier today on Facebook I share the photo of our grandson, Breckin, which was on the front page of The Chanute Tribune. I posted that there was more to the story, but I wanted to check with Kelli first before I said anything. So... here is the rest of the story. At the game Tuesday night Kelli and Breckin had awesome seats on the left base line and sat directly behind an older couple from Kansas City and their grown children. If youve ever been to a professional game you know that many times you strike up a friendship with those you are sitting around. The family really took a liking to Breckin. They enjoyed talking to him and enjoyed watching his excitement of being at the game and getting on the jumbo screen. One of the men, named Jeff, told Kelli that we was born and raised in Kansas City but actually living in Baltimore. He was there as a loyal Royals fan. As the excitement of the game grew and it was the top of the 9th inning, Jeff leaned over and whispered something to Breckin causing him to grin ear-to-ear and jump up and down with excitement. Jeff then told Kelli, I just told (Breckin) that if we go three-up and three-down Im taking him to the World Series. Well…. Guess what. At the top of the 9th the Royals push those Orioles three-up and three-down. Royals won!! Jeff’s mom looked at Kelli and said, “I have such a good boy.” Jeff asked for Kelli’s email address and they all parted ways. By the time she and Breckin reached Ottawa on their way home Jeff emailed Kelli and told her that the tickets were ordered and she’d be getting them by email sometime Wednesday. Well…. Guess what. Wednesday night Kelli got the email confirming her tickets. She printed them off and they are in her hand. She and Breckin are going to the World Series Game 1 in Kansas City Tuesday night. Out of curiosity, she checked Stub Tickets on what they cost… $1,700 each!!! I can’t believe this has happened. A perfect stranger making a promise to a 9-year-old little boy at his first professional playoff game… and KEEPING that promise. A perfect stranger just spent $3,400 on tickets to a World Series Game for two people he just met. So, this is my feel good story. A story about a boy, baseball, and keeping a promise. Thanks Jeff Hinkle from Baltimore! You are one in a million. The memories of this moment is going to last a lifetime.
