Ebbys Adventure Walk, 12/27/13 Hi Jill! Happy Holidays! Thank you so much for choosing to sponsor an adventure walk for a deserving dog this holiday season! It turns out that Fish Stick has been adopted from RACC, but he left a note saying to walk another deserving dog in his place! When I talked to some of the amazing staff at the shelter, one dog was recommended to me in particular, since she is often looked over by visitors, and is quite elderly. Her name is Ebby, and Ebby is the sweet grandmother of RACC! A black lab, Ebby was found as a stray, is around 12 years old and has some arthritis, but has captured the hearts of the staff, and I could immediately see why! They asked would you mind taking out a nice old lady dog? so how could I say no? Ebby was quite different from many of the hyper pups at the shelter, and may be old in years, but she is bright in spirit! As soon as I led Ebby outside, I could see a change in her demeanor. She perked right up and had no fears about getting into the car (she just needed a quick boost onto the backseat)! She sniffed the air whizzing by as we headed to the park. We decided to keep things on the laidback side for Miss Ebby, so no rock-hopping for her this time, but boy did she have a blast! We headed to Byrd Park, where as soon as we parked, Ebby proved herself to be as feisty as ever, and was determined to leap out of the car as fast as her legs could carry her! She had spotted a flock of geese and several ducks, and she was on a mission. Ebby went as close to the water as she could to investigate, and happily let out some celebratory woofs! While I dont think any of the ducks were quacking in their boots, Ebby sure enjoyed letting her presence be known! After a walk around the waters edge, Ebby and I made our way to the open fields, where Ebby kept up a pretty good pace until she wore herself out. I made it my business to follow her lead, and we stopped to sniff a few sticks and leaves, before Ebby spotted a pretty park building and meandered her way over to the porch. Incidentally, it had an access ramp for wheelchairs, and Ebby appreciated that there was a gentle way up just for her! She checked out the Christmas greenery and ribbons decorating the handrails, and posed for some beauty shots before she decided to take a rest in a sunbeam, stretching out her front paws and looking up at me with a big doggy grin. She looked quite regal, surveying the passersby from her perch. After a few minutes of snuggles, we made our way back around the lake, and when Ebby seemed to be getting tired, we headed back to the car for a picnic blanket and just watched the ducks in the fountain while she caught her breath and had a drink of water. I have never had the pleasure of meeting such a sweet and endearing older dog with so much love to give a family- she would make a wonderful, loyal companion for anyone willing to stop and enjoy the simple things in life with a kindhearted canine companion. With a sweet personality like hers, Ebby deserves to be in a nice cozy bed by the fire, enjoying her golden years! Ebby may have white whiskers now, but she is a beauty. I hope I look as majestic when Im in my 80s! Thanks for making it that much more possible to find Ebby her perfect forever home, and for filling Ebbys day with a little sunshine. Ebby is available with Richmond Animal Care and Control. If youre interested in sponsoring an Adventure Walk for a rescued dog, please visit canineadventure.net/store/sponsored-walk
