Ederney Gathering Festival 23rd-25th August 2013 Come all ye to Ederney “Come all ye pincher laddies and you long distance men” Come back to Erne’s drumlins and bring yer women friends Come have the craic in Carrons, The New Street or The Cross Come back yer pigs on Friday night what matter win or loss Come Highway Man and Gathering Girl the leaders of our party Come 8 o’clock your secret’s out, extend the welcomes hearty Come run 10k or walk the half on Saturday morning early Come shop for fare, at crafts do stare, enjoy the market parley Come afternoon to the GV Inn, dog-show and games to savour Come have the fun at gathering spuds and the tossing of the caber Come later still and the hunger’s on for the bacon spuds and ham Come BBQ at the charity ‘do’ in support of young Tilly and Sam Come in Sunday best to the fancy dress and the sports in St Joseph’s Park Come search for clues, or the treasure loose, from 6pm till dark Come any way at all and make it a ball, after all this rhyming and rallying Come back to here, your home so dear to The Ederney Festival Gathering Yes Its Festival time in Ederney again as the local community marks the “Gathering Year” with a weekend of festival fun on the Bank Holiday weekend from Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th August. The festival committee extends a warm welcome to visitors from home and abroad and would be thrilled to see as many as possible with connections to the North Fermanagh village come and celebrate with them this special year. And of course you can’t have a festival in Ederney without its famous Highwayman Prionnsias Dubh overseeing things and this year he will be accompanied by his Gathering Girl to mark the occasion and they will be unmasked at the opening ceremony by Alex Baird, Chairman of Fermanagh District Council. The festival will kick-off with the ever popular Racing Pigs event and Street music by Rosemarie and guests followed by music in the local bars and a Ceili in St. Joseph’s Hall. On Saturday morning there is a Market Fair and Craft Show at St. Joseph’s Hall with a 10k Fun Run and 5k Walk at 11am. There is fun for all the family at the Glendarragh Valley Inn starting at 3pm with a Dog Show and Country Games event and later in the evening a Potato Parade will lead to Main Street for a special BBQ night jointly in aid of two young Fermanagh children, Tilly Walker and Sam Bradley with music on the street by “Bite The Dust” along with special guest singer local star,Thomas Milligan, followed by music in the local bars Sunday 25th starts at 2pm with Fancy Dress and Sports in St. Joseph’s Park and at 6pm there will be a festival Treasure Hunt from Ederney Town Hall. The Gathering Festival will finish up with music in the bars and a chance for all to say their goodbyes until they meet again. So that’s it, fun, food, chat, music, sport, and a chance to unwind.
