Editorial Analysis The government of Peter Mutharika has failed to promote the interests of Malawians which is to make life easier and affordable. Barely a month after getting into office through fraud and bribing presiding officers to alter figures in their favour they established the National Intelligence Bureau an organisation to destroy evidence of electoral fraud and an organisation set up to spy on the activities of the opposition. It did not take three weeks before the National Intelligence Bureau was operating, the markets were torched, warehouses with evidence of fraud and rigging burned, MEC making statement the fire was normal and then after much criticism making a U-Turn statement. Since coming into power all the DPP has done is making Malawi more poorer , lavished itself of foreign travels withdrawing huge allowances and at the moment almost ten billion kwacha is gone without any accountability. The president has failed to live by the constitution and declare his wealth because he is still thieving and accumulating wealth after being sworn in and his conscience tells him only to declare when he has stolen enough. Malawian fake CSO leaders John Kapito and Billy Mayaya often found themselves in the street demonstrating against former president to re- declare her wealth although she had already done so in line with the constitution . At the moment DPP government has managed to silence Mayaya and Kapito with bribery to the extent that Malawians are wondering whether the two are still living in Malawi and if so where has their demonstrations gone now that Mutharika is not declaring his wealth and is poorly serving Malawians. As if this is not enough the DPP government has announced few hikes making life of its citizens more unbearable Below are the revised fees for making a passport at the Immigration Department effective October 1, 2014 30 days Passport From K15 100 to MK40 000 - increased by K24 900 5 days passport From K25 100 to K60 000 - increased by K34 900 2 days passport (Express) From K35 100 to K80 000 - increased by K44 900 Drivers Licence 5 years licence (Licence you get to drive most saloon cars - personal) From K8 000 to K15 000 - increased by K7000 2 Years Licence (Minibus drivers, small dangerous goods vehicles) From K5 000 to MK10 000 - increased by K5 000 Certificate of Fitness - COF From K1500 to K10 000 - increased by K8 500 Change of Ownership - when you buy a car from another person, and you want to change details From K10 000 to K15 000 - increased by K5000 Vehicle registration (for new vehicles) From K10 000 to K15 000 - increased by K5000. Failing which we are duty bound to urge the civil servants to demonstrate and demand pay hikes as life is becoming unbearable.
