Editorial Column Malachi 2: 10 – 11, 13 – 16. Beloved, you are welcome in the name of Jesus Christ to the world of Couples Reminiscences. It is very obvious and doubtless to say that the nucleus of every society, community nation and the world is the home. It means that no society, community or nation can be better than the homes that make it up. Permit me to quote from Herald of His Coming May 2014 edition “No matter how excellent the constitution and laws of a country may be, or what its material resources they are insufficient and ineffectual unless a sure foundation for social order and public virtue is laid in the healthy regulation and wise discipline of its families. The nation is but the aggregate of individual comprising it, and unless there are good fathers and mothers, good sons and daughters, brothers and sisters – there will be no good citizens. It is because our home life has so sadly deteriorate, that social decay is now so far advanced, nor can it be arrested until parents once again properly discharge their responsibility. We have no hesitation in saying that the future welfare of our nation is more seriously menaced by the relaxation of family government and the breakdown of home life, than by any governmental incompetence or foreign hostility. Early 2013, God spoke to me that what He gives to parents is His own heritage (the children) but unfortunately they do not return them back to Him as heritage. Ps 127:3 The reason for this forum is to allow God work upon us as parents so that our children can be positively influenced under our roof. The result of a better home gives us better society. That of a better society gives us a better community, while a better community gives us a better nation. A better nation connotes such a nation where crime rate is significantly negligible and peace with Godly is promoted. Some of us choose to read through this column not because our marriages are not working but because God wants us to help marriages around us that are unhealthy. I was in a hospital recently in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, I overheard a discussion between a man (father) and a staff nurse in an hospital. She was blaming this supposed father of his sons drinking habit. She told him to his face that they take after him. The saddest thing was that he couldnt defend that accusation. What a serious indictment as a father. Has not the LORD made them one? In flesh and in spirit they are His. And why? Because He was seeking Godly offspring. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith with the wife of your youth. Mal. 2: 15 (NIV). Most homes are in crises these days and the children are the bearers of the brunt. Today we have street girls because of the mothers’ unfaithfulness. Many take to prodigality because of the parents’ imprudence’s and extravagancies. There are those who cannot submit to authorities because of pride inherited from home. Many become hired assassins because of the crude businesses noticed from their parents. It means, until we change as parents we can’t expect positive charges from the children. Let us remove every little leaven that is leavening our whole lump. Our relationship as husband and wife must be sound enough for us to raise God fearing generation. I want to implore every one of us to open our heart and be humble enough to accept teachings and corrections that will move our home forward. Help us see some areas where we need change or to overhaul in order for our home to be haven on earth. Help us build God approved relationship that can give our children right footing in the society and right standing before God. Help us live the kind of life that can guarantee our fulfillment as couples and ensure our eternal life with Christ at the end of the day.
