Edo lawmaker donates mobile clinic to constituency Posted on Wednesday, August 21st, 2013 The lawmaker representing Uhunwonde Local Government Area in the Edo State House of assembly, Elizabeth Ativie, on Tuesday donated a multi-million naira mobile clinic as her contribution towards the health needs of the people of her constituency. Unveiling the mobile clinic, which was specially produced in Germany and can cover any terrain, Ativie said she procured the vehicle after taking into consideration the special health needs of her people, as those in the interior villages in the area find it difficult to get quality healthcare. She said: “After finding out the needs of my people, I discovered that the people in interior villages do not have access to proper medical services. “So, I felt this mobile clinic-cum-hospital can move from village to village and that will reduce the incident of our people patronising quacks,” she added. Ativie added that with the mobile clinic, “the PHC coordinator in the Local Government Area will be able to move from village to village on market days and give medical care to the people and that is why I went for this.” Ativie, a trained nurse with experience spanning over 30 years, said she would set up a mini-committee of people in the local government to ensure the constant fueling and maintenance of the mobile clinic to ensure that it is optimally utilised. An elated Governor Adams Oshiomhole, who inspected the mobile clinic commended the lawmaker for the initiative for the project. The governor said: “I have seen the facilities inside the mobile clinic, I am very excited and very impressed. “In addition to your normal legislative duties in which you have been doing well, supporting all our laudable projects, providing legislative support for the appropriation without which those projects will not have been done; in addition to these, you have embarked upon what can be described as humanitarian project by using your resources. “You have procured a very well-equipped mobile clinic for our rural people who have difficulty in accessing model medical facilities. “We are trying to build model health centres everywhere but it will take a while for us to have a model health centre in every village. “I think your initiative is wonderful, it will afford you to take medicare to the doorstep of those who need it in the remote parts of Uhunmwode Local Government Area”, he noted. Oshiomhole stressed: “The point being made, because you have done us proud, what distinguishes ACN now APC, from the other party, we recognise that we are here, and the only way to remain here is to take on board the concerns and challenges of the people and that you have demonstrated by this laudable initiative.
