Eds family helped start Tiftarea Academy. The first classes met at Ty Ty on the Tift and Worth County line. The old Ty Ty school house burned in the 1960s. The new monument at Ty Ty lists the fire as one of their historic events. So, Ed and his classmates moved into another abandoned public school building at Chula until the first buildings at Tiftareas current site were opened. A pastors son, Ed attended four different high schools but graduated at Tiftarea. Weve returned for one Homecoming football game. He wore his letter mans jacket. That was fun, His letters include basketball, football, golf, track and baseball. Hes 64 and moves like an athlete. You could see the whispers travel across the football stadium in a wave. They didnt know Ed, but the high school students knew he was someone they should learn about. Its unlikely they did, though. A coach dubbed his highest scoring basketball forward George. No one knows why. Besides, Ed enjoyed being the mystery, and he is a legend. :-) This modern monument stands Ty Tys history on railroad tracks. The design sums up the town history.
