Educational Activities, in conjunction with Design News, is providing access to 2 courses for IEEE members: Programmable Logic - How Do They Do That? January 12-16, 2015 Course Overview: Often we dont think about the details of how a particular device or technology are implemented- we just use them in our designs. However sometimes you can’t help but wonder- “How do they do that?”- when an assumption you made about using a device turns out to be wrong. Designing with programmable logic, in particular, often leaves us scratching our heads. This class will dig into the details of how programmable logic devices and the associated tools are implemented so you can better understand some of the ‘How’ behind common trade-offs you are faced with in your designs. However, with the predicted exponential growth of the Internet of Things (IoT), the need for the expanded addressing space of v.6 is direly needed. In this class, we will look at one solution for implementing IPv.6 as part of a simple, dual-stack system on a representative ARM chip, the Freescale K64. We take a “hands-on” approach, using an inexpensive development board and a free integrated development environment (IDE) as well as a free IPv.6 stack -- and a free test tool to boot! We will design and build a simple IPv.6 node that is capable of becoming part of the IoT.
