Eggon Declares Support For Al-Makura, Renounces Violence The Eggon people of Nasarawa State have pledged their total support to the government of Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and said that the recent violent communal clashes among some thnic groups is only a ploy to sow seeds of discord. The prominent elders, who disclosed this at their stakeholders’ meeting held at the Nasarawa Eggon local government headquarters yesterday, condemned the activities of some disgruntled elements among them who are hell-bent on giving the entire Eggon nation a bad name in their clandestine mission to achieve their personal goals. Speaking at the event, the district head of Alogani, Suleiman Dogo Anda, who represented the paramount ruler of the Eggon people, the Aren Eggon, Bala Angbazo, said the Eggon people are peace-loving and have inter-married with all their neighbors with whom they have had disagreement in the past citing that even as the fight between the Fulani and Eggon raged on they were given shelter by the Eggons and same for other ethnic nationalities. While delivering the message of the Aren Eggon, Mr. Ando commended the efforts of Governor Al-Makura, saying the community was ready to give him all the necessary support in his effort to bring the state back to its former status as one of the most peaceful states of the federation. Mr. Yamusa Dauda Idde, a former administrator with Nasarawa Eggon local government, urged his kinsmen to desist from allowing themselves to be used by selfish politicians. According to him, “We the Eggon people love and are happy with Al-Makura for no other reason than his desire to reposition the state and place it on the path of progress and collective prosperity, the kind of leader the state has never had.” Meanwhile, the Surveyor General of the Federation, Nigeria (SGOF), Professor Peter Nwilo, has commended the Nasarawa State government for its land reforms, especially the introduction of the Geographic Information System (GIS) of land administration and has ranked it tops ahead of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
