Egret Magick In my part of the world it is common to see a large variety of birds during their migration to warmer climes. During my most recent travels I happened upon some egrets. Egrets are in the Heron family and much of the information I found is interchangeable with the heron in spiritual and/or magickal connections. They are beautiful in their own right, but it seemed that there was a deeper meaning - This is what I found . . . Symbolism of the Heron or Egret Written by avenefica on October 8th, 2007 The Heron or Egret is symbolic in many cultures. Here are a few highlights about the symbolism of the heron. In Egypt the Heron is honored as the creator of light. A double headed Heron in Egypt is symbolic of prosperity. As a Chinese symbol the Heron represents strength, purity, patience and long life. In Africa, the Heron was thought to communicate with the Gods. Most Native American tribes took note of the heron’s inquisitiveness, curiosity and determination. As such this set the heron as a symbol of wisdom in that this creature seemed to have good judgement skills. Specifically, the Iroquois tribe held the blue heron as a very good omen, a very lucky sign. They recognized the heron as an expert fisher/hunter. As such, they believed that sighting a heron before a hunt was a sign that the hunt would be a good one. As a water creature the heron is also a symbol of going with the flow, and working with the elements of Mother nature rather than struggling against her. The heron is a beautiful creature, exhibiting grace, and noble stature. It’s no wonder the Native Indians and ancients honored the heron throughout the centuries. Symbolic Meaning of the Heron Calm Grace Solitude Patience Longevity Versatility Tranquility Good Luck Partnership Intelligence Domesticity Being Present Determination Independence Resourcefulness HERON, EGRET Aggressive Self-Determination Self-Reliance A Heron and Egret totem teaches balance; the ability to progress and evolve -- to walk into deeper waters without fear. It is important for someone with a Heron and Egret totem to learn to stand on their own two feet, to become independent and self-reliant. Heron and Egret has a strong connection to the element of Earth and you must also be aware and cultivate this connection. The Mother Earth is a source of strength and will help you stand strong and firm. Heron medicine allows you to perform many tasks at the same time, keeping all in balance. If one way doesnt work, then another way will. Heron and Egret people seem to instinctively know this. Heron people do not need a lot of people in their life and they are often follow non-traditional roles. They feel no need to keep up with the Jones. They stand out in their uniqueness and know how to take advantage of things and events that most people wouldnt bother with. You know what is best for you and you should follow that path. Be aggressive when opportunities present themselves -- dont let them get away from you. Meditation on color will provide insight to Heron and Egret people.
