Eight years ago today (July 15, 2006) Pr. Ben Zahn preached on the words below from Psalm 71 right before Pr. Ted Olsen united Kristen and I in marriage at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Monroe, Michigan. Praise God that over these eight years he has preserved us from many and bitter troubles while bringing into our lives so many friends in Michigan, Texas, South Dakota and points beyond, as well as three, and soon to be four, blessings from the Lord: Katherine, Samuel, Hannah, and Pistachio. Even better, he has taught us more about himself and revealed, and not only revealed, but continued to give us his righteousness in Christ through the means of grace. We havent come close to catching our parents and grandparents in years (Happy 41st anniversary to my parents, Frank and Kristine Tomczak, by the way, yesterday, July 14th), but hope to (unless Jesus comes first). We also rejoice in the fine examples of marriage that surround us. Since my youth, O God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come. Your righteousness reaches to the skies, O God, you who have done great things. Who, O God, is like you? Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up. -- Psalm 71:17-20
