Eight years ago today, the campaigning Russian journalist and outspoken government critic - Anna Politkovskaya - was brutally murdered. 2014 has seen five men found guilty of having committed her murder (with all given lengthy prison sentences), but those who ordered it have still not been brought to justice. Today, on the anniversary of her murder, RAW in WAR again calls for justice for Anna - and her colleague Natalia Estemirova. Yesterday, to mark the anniversary of Annas murder and to honour her and other women like her in the world, who stand up for the victims of war and conflict, we presented the 2014 Anna Politkovskaya Award to the brave Iraqi parliamentarian Vian Dakhil, on behalf of all Yazidi and Iraqi women besieged by Islamic State. Vian is a truly courageous woman, who became the voice of the Yazidi community, targeted by Islamic State. You can watch her acceptance speech here, ( https://youtube/watch?v=59nAv3kfrZs ) and for more information about Vian and the Anna Politkovskaya Award - you can view our leaflet here: (rawinwar.org/images/stories/rawleaflet2014)
