Ekiti 2014: Kinsmen move against Bamidele Political appointees in Iyin-Ekiti, the home town of the governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Opeyemi Bamidele, have rejected him ahead of the June 21 governorship election. Addressing journalists on Friday in Ado-Ekiti, the appointees led by the Chairman, House of Assembly Service Commission, Chief George Ojo, said Bamidele never got the support of his kinsmen. He regretted that Bamidele had been insulting all those who “raised him from his low background,” including the former governors of Lagos and Ekiti states, Bola Tinubu and Niyi Adebayo. Ojo, who is a former Director-General of Bamidele Campaign Organisation when he contested for the House of Representatives, said there was no collective decision by sons and daughters of Iyin-Ekiti to support Bamidele. “We want to inform the entire public that there was no point at which Iyin took a collective decision that Bamidele should embark on his impossible mission. He is on his own. If he had a collective mandate of Iyin-Ekiti, how come he is flying solo,” he stated. Ojo faulted Bamidele for criticising Adebayo’s achievements in office and for not supporting his decision to run against the incumbent against the incumbent, Governor Kayode Fayemi. He explained that as governor, Adebayo employed 196 Iyin indigenes into the local government service, while he also assisted to secure employment for others at federal establishments and corporate organisations. Ojo stated, “He has spent two and half years in Abuja and he has not reported back to his constituency. We can see what his contemporaries are doing in their respective domains, but he has been squandering the money meant for the people of Ado and Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government on wasteful exercise across the state.
