Ekiti State University: Repositioning For Greater Excellence In the new world we live in, societal growth which is the totality of the socio-economic and political prosperity is driven by knowledge and the efficiency of human capacity residing in an environment to assimilate process and deliver the gains of Knowledge will accelerate the development and growth of the area. The role of the University which has the highest level of intellectual composition is important to achieve the above, it is in this line that the leadership of Ekiti State University as lead by a distinguished academic and scholar, a fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science, and professor of soil physics, Prof. Oladipo Aina is thinking to reposition and reconstruct the vision of EKSU. The new bold vision to make EkSU a world class institution in the 21st century, that will be ranked among the best globally in terms of the quality of its graduates, cutting edge technology, research as well as value added to the society is a roadmap of development as designed by the vice chancellor, Prof Oladipo Aina who is leading an efficient and dynamic team to change the story of Ekiti state University. This project according to the Vice Chancellor is enormous but not insurmountable and its a process that is on going guided by the new 5 year strategic plan for the University with evident positive results that in the nearest future, the transformation story of EKSU will be heard Globally. Recent developments in the University have shown tremendous record of success which has been commended both locally and internationally. It is good to remark that the University has improved on its linkage programs with top notch Universities in Europe, South America, United Kingdom, South Africa and Asia. Several Academic and non teaching staff are currently on sponsored programs around the globe to increase efficiency and the quality of Academic training while new internationally rated courses have been introduced to attract global attention as well as improve the quality of life for the Ekiti People and ultimately, Nigeria. These courses include Gender and development studies, Theatre and Media Arts, Forensic Science in collaboration with Gujarrat University in India, and the new programmes under the institute of Peace, Governance and security. The Achievement trend in the new era also saw the law graduate of the University emerge best Nationwide at the 2013 final bar II Examination at the Nigerian Law School. The students of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences emerged champions at 2 national competitions. The newly Introduced work and study program designed by the Vice- Chancellor to support brilliant indigent students to earn stipends to support their university education has also yielded positive support. Recently, Students of the University became National Champions of the Enactus Competition ahead of over 65 Nigerian Universities and earned the ticket to represent Nigeria at the World finale in China. In the area of Academic research, several breakthroughs have been recorded while our graduates are doing fantastically well occupying top notch leadership positions in top notch companies and conglomerates. On staff welfare, the University Management has implemented upgrading of personnel in both Non teaching and Academic categories while staff training locally and internationally have been carried out. The Vice-Chancellor has implemented an unprecedented investment in building and equipping laboratories across all faculties. This vision is in progress and together, we shall have a model University befitting the status of and the long standing reputation of people of the land of Honor. In the mean time, the Vice- Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Prof. Oladipo Aina has assured workers of the commitment of the Governor, Dr Ayodele Fayose, Ekiti State Government and the Management of the University to their welfare. The Vice- Chancellor who was speaking to press men on the recent no work no pay strike action embarked upon by the Unions said that the salary for the month of October has been paid to workers today. He reiterated that the delay in the payment of salaries was occasioned by the events surrounding the change of leadership of the state. However, appreciated the efforts of the Governor and Visitor to the University, Dr. Ayodele Fayose for the prompt release of the October subvention to the University while efforts are on to ensure that all arrears of allowances and emoluments are paid as soon as possible. He commended the cooperation and understanding of workers who have shown tremendous support for his administration. Prof. Aina explained that the University management will continue to be efficient in delivering optimum quality to the standard of living of staff and infrastructural growth to achieve the new bold vision of making EKSU a world Class Citadel of learning.
