Eleventh tornado of the season confirmed in Ontario. Environment Canada has confirmed the occurrence of the 11th tornado of the season in Ontario based on a detailed eye witness account near Carleton Place (to the southwest of Ottawa). A brief tornado was observed this morning at approximately 9 A.M. near highway 7 just south of Carleton Place. It was spotted in a field with visible rotation and evident from the cloud base to the ground. No buildings or trees were impacted so there was no damage. As a result, the event is being classified as a low end enhanced Fujita scale zero tornado with maximum wind speeds at the ground near 90 kilometres per hour. It occurred on the leading edge of a band of rain and embedded thunderstorms moving through Eastern Ontario ahead of a cold front. Although no rotation was evident on Doppler radar, weak tornadoes Can develop along such a leading edge.
