Elizabeth Stewart Locke-Thomas 11 hrs · Murrieta, CA Good Morning Team, Due to the poor form shown over the last two days by far too many Girl Scout families on social media I am making an immediate change to our social media policy. This will serve as your one and only warning to this change. The cookie program is above all else a business program that represents our mission. We love the fun and excitement of cookies but not at the detriment of our mission to build girls of character confidence and courage. The behavior witnessed, and screen shot, this weekend was absolutely unacceptable. Please remember that people look to all of us as one giant troop. When we fight, misbehave or in general act badly we are misrepresenting this mission. This past weekend has seen some very poor examples of being mentors in a leadership position. Due to the repeated issues we must make immediate changes. These changes will not affect any girls ability to hit her goals rather it will reset the public’s opinion of the cookie program, as currently we are seeing the public very upset with the infighting going on publicly on social media sites. A girl can and does hit her goals by working her sale with enthusiasm and kindness. Social media sites are not necessary to find success but they can absolutely halt a sale for everyone when utilized inappropriately. Beginning today 1/26/2015 the ability to post or share Cookie Sales information for your child or troop to public FB sites has been revoked. It is your responsibility to get this information to your parents. Not allowed: You MAY NOT post to any public pages IE Temecula talk, VV News, SoCal fb, Buy Sell Trade etc…. AT ALL as a venue of selling your cookies. You may respond within the posts if someone seeks product but you MAY NOT post personal information. Poor behavior being noted is: Fighting publicly between leaders, name calling, vulgarity and unsafe posting of personal home addresses. This is a violation of Common Sense ,first and foremost ,as well as the Code of Conduct that all parents and volunteers signed an agreement to follow. Please speak to one another, take a deep breathe, We are responsible for what we say and do ,always. There are plenty of people to sell cookies too, please be the best examples to our children. Acceptable social media sites you may post to; Your personal family pages, family and personal twitter or family and personal instagrams Thank you to all of you, 99% amazing volunteers, families and girls showing the world what a cookie can do because it is truly amazing. We know that you will find your successes and that this bump in the road of early crazy will not affect your ability to find success rather it will band us together to create a strong message that we are Girl Scouts and we are running the worlds largest entrepreneurial program for young women who believe that business ethics are important. Thank you for your immediate action of deleting posts currently up, contacting your families and beginning again with a smile.
