A non-jury trial of Alicia M. Stroud, 31, of Columbia Street, was to begin Thursday. Stroud pleaded guilty to torturing and injuring an animal, a court spokeswoman said. Stroud is due back in court for sentencing on Nov. 21 by Judge Steven Forrest, she said. The charge is a class A misdemeanor that carries a maximum fine of $1,000 or up to one year in jail or both. Stroud had also been charged with one count each of unsanitary conditions, unlicensed dog and failure to provide rabies vaccination, according to Elmira City Animal Control. On June 12, 2013, city animal control officers responded to Stroud’s apartment for a report of a sick or injured dog. Investigators found Ivy, an approximately 1-year-old pit bull mix, in very serious physical condition, animal control said. Ivy was taken to Broadway Animal Hospital for evaluation and treatment, but because of her condition, she was euthanized, animal control said. Stroud’s initial court appearance was July 19, 2013.
