However few ever consider the level of security of the mails over the internet or whether its securely travels over the network...Today we will discuss a popular service for encrypting emails over the internet with enhanced privacy and security courtesy of a popular programme called PGP.. (PGP) or #PrettyGoodPrivacy , the brainchild of Phil Zimmermann way back in 1991, is a data encrypting program for cryptographic privacy over the internet. Its usage is encryption of e-mails but can also be extended to files and disk encryption for enhanced security in the #web. #PGP working design method:- PGPs encryption has a multilayer combination of #hashing, #cryptography, and the essential public-key cryptography all resting on the base of withstanding algorithms. PGP offers the facility to send- receive emails with increased confidentially with key- encryption algorithms which are 1 session keys. The message and its session key are sent to the receiver. Messages are encrypted using encryption algorithms and “use once” keys/ session keys. Message integrity property and digital signatures are used to find out whether the contents of a file being sent over the net are modified and whether packets are lost in the transmit, as a result PGP creates a digital signature for the message with specific algorithms by computing hashes and the resulting digital signature providing a means of high security mechanism. Versatility of PGP is not only limited to #emails, it can also cater to #data storage on disk files. Its decryption is used to detect whether a message has been altered since it was completed (the message integrity property) and the proof of a legitimate sender. PGP encryption applications are now extended to include disk encryption, system security, file transfer and most important server security.
