EnUrga scientists are characterizing a spray nozzle with liquid nitrogen. Liquid nitrogen flows out from the nozzle at 75 K, and flash vaporizes. The dense fog seen around it is water vapor condensing from the humidity in the air. Liquid nitrogen is being used as a surrogate for Liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen that is used as fuel and oxidizer in cryogenic rocket engines. The cryogenic spray is characterized using X-Ray tomography to provide mass concentrations maps of the liquified gas in the spray. Video by Dr. Jongmook Lim.
