Enbridge line 9 is a pipeline that runs from Sarnia, ON to - TopicsExpress

Enbridge line 9 is a pipeline that runs from Sarnia, ON to Montreal, QUE. It has been used to transport crude oil from abroad to facilities in Ontario for decades. Now big oil companies want Enbridge to reverse the flow of line 9 and hook it up to a network of other pipelines. One reason that they want this done is so that they can pump Alberta crude to a port in Maine where the crude can be exported to other countries by sea. It is believed that big oil intends to eventually pump oilsands bitumen through these pipelines. // Oilsands bitumen is highly toxic. It is 10X as toxic as the crude oil that comes from Saudi Arabia. Bitumen is also highly corrosive. If big oil is allowed to pump bitumen through pipelines across the continent, then, in all likelihood, it will only be a matter of time before theres a leak. You see, Enbridge and big oil companies dont really have the technology to stop all leaks. They might say that they do, but they dont. // Line 9 traverses Lake Ontarios entire watershed on the Canadian side of the lake and more than a few million people live within 50 KM of the pipeline. If there was ever a major spill here, the result could be catastrophic. // PLEASE CONTACT POLITICIANS AND TELL THEM THAT YOU OPPOSE BIG OIL COMPANIES FROM USING ENBRIDGE LINE 9 FOR THE PURPOSE OF TRANSPORTING HIGHLY TOXIC AND HIGHLY CORROSIVE OILSANDS BITUMEN (This issue falls under the jurisdiction of the Federal government, not the Provincial.)
