Encouraged by Greg Childs recent post ... (The context? Our parish priest who insists on having junky music for Family Masses on the grounds that thats what theyre used to and it will make them feel more welcome. I had to get it out of my system somehow and took to my pen.) And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying : The kingdom of heaven is like to a certain king, which desired to give banquets to his people. He summoned his steward, that he might prepare the first dinner and that his servants might make the finest viands for the feast. Lo, the day of the first banquet was come and those that were bidden came in a great multitude, awaiting the king. He came and entered the hall, and the guests entered thereafter. But when the king saw that the tables were covered with plastic cloths and dishes, he waxed exceeding wroth and said unto his steward, « Why hast thou cover’d the tables with plastic cloths and dishes ? » Then the steward made answer : « Lord, thou hast many subjects that did never before come to the palace. They would fear fine damask and crystal with lillies and must have poor things like unto their own, that they may gladly eat the caviar and wish to return. » His lord said unto him : « Thou faithless and wicked servant, thou knewest that this banquet was to be exceeding sumptuous, and thou wishedst to make it appear poor. How then might my subjects know the beauty of my gift to them ? Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness, to MacDo, where the CocaCola maketh the teeth to gnash and the fire under the burning grease is never quenched. »
