Endings and Beginnings. It is said that when God closes one door, another opens. This seems a universal constant that manifests with an infinite amount of variations. Sometimes, the end is also the beginning. On Sunday, December 28th, 8pm, the performance of Gods Unruly Friends at the Muhammad Salahuddeen Memorial Theater (at the University of the Streets) will be the ensembles first performance; and bandleader Dawouds final performance of 2014. Led by Dawoud (dilruba, laptop, Ashbury bass, and whatever else he feels like playing), and featuring Latif Kurfirst (percussion), Dano Behroozi (saxophone, flute, wind synth), and Chenana Manno (vocals, singing bowls, and dance), Gods Unruly Friends takes you on a musical path that few dare tread. Join us for the emergence of jazz from another dimension; world music from another world. The Muhammad Salahuddeen Memorial Theater (at the University of the Streets) is located at 130 east 7th street, 2nd floor, NYC). The exchange is a mere $15. Looking ahead to 2015: Renegade Sufi (Dawoud on sitar & Jimmy Lopez on percussion) will perform at Silvana (300 west 116th street, NYC) on Wednesday, January 7th, 8pm. This will be Dawouds. The following Saturday, January 10th, Dawoud will offer another Music Meditation at Three Jewels Yoga (61 4th ave, 3rd floor, NYC). Finally, on Wednesday January 14th, 7pm, Dawoud will teach a special one day class entitled The Practical Application of Esoteric and Arcane Music. The class will explore the psychoactive properties of music, and how to use them.This will be held at the event space at Namaste Bookshop (80 5th avenue, suite 1104, NYC).
