Hodgson will not stop Rooneychatting with the Chelsea players Ashley Cole, Gary Cahill and Frank Lampard but emphasised his “duty of care”to Unitedand their manager, David Moyes. Hodgson has twice spoken to Moyes and once to Rooney, who is in that strange political situation of being fit to play for country but not club during his current stand-off with United. Hodgson has also talked to Chelsea’s manager, Jose Mourinho, about the tense situation.
