England v Poland 8pm. Its the 40 year anniversary when these two teams last met at a crucial stage in world cup qualifying in 1973. On that day England had more chances than Jack Nicklaus had golf clubs ! But their keeper (described by Brian Clough as a clown), had a very good game making many excellent saves. Many blame Norman Hunter for a weak tackle, that allowed a Polish forward to gallop down the wing, pass the ball across the pitch to a colleague who shot on goal. But it was Peter Shilton who let the ball go under his body as he dived, and into the net. It was really his fault - but at a time when his confidence as a keeper was down. He went on to become the worlds best in the 80s and 90s. In sport some things are not meant to be, but this time we have a chance to put the record straight - gain automatic qualification, lay to rest a bad ghost, and complete a job that Gary Lineker started in Mexico 86 (England 3 Poland 0 - a Lineker hat trick). Good luck England .... Rooney hat trick?
