Enjoyed Evita on Tour far more than I expected to. EVITA was one - TopicsExpress

Enjoyed Evita on Tour far more than I expected to. EVITA was one of my first musical obsessions, and in addition to the first national tour in 1980 (for which I flew to Miami), Ive seen at least half a dozen productions over the decades, so thought I was pretty EVITAd out. (I even like the Madonna movie version of Evita.) All the prior stage productions, though, were variations on the famous original Harold Prince staging. So to see the material so thoroughly re-imagined was an unexpected treat. Some things I missed (Eva giving Perons mistress her fur coat, e.g.), but so many terrific new ideas made up for the losses. Caroline Bowman was the best Eva Ive ever seen; just fantastic vocally, and emotionally connected every second. Josh Young (Tony-nominated for his Judas in JESUS CHRIST, SUPERSTAR) was also spot on as Che. Sean MacLaughlin at first struck me as a tad too young for Peron, but quickly won me over with his powerful singing and commanding presence. Just a wonderful show. IMHO, of course. Extra added treat: seeing our own Daniel Klintworth playing his heart out in the pit during curtain call.
