Enjoyed the amazing crowd at the Bracken County Farm Bureau fish fry yesterday evening. The question of the day seemed to be Do you really want that job? Easy answer: Of course I do...otherwise, why would I be spending every waking moment, every spare cent, and sleepless hours in thought worrying about it? It is a question, however, which I have spent much time asking myself. The true question is not so much if I want the job, as it is why I want the job. When breaking down my life, I spent the first 40% of it in education. The remaining 60% has pretty much been dedicated to public service, and in the legal service profession, helping others. I like to fix things, and always have. Whether its a broken cuckoo clock, or a broken business or relationship, Ive always had a desire to pick up the pieces and put them back together, or help others do the same. Much of what the District Court Judge does is just that...melding law and fact together to come up with solutions for social problems at many different levels. I view the Judicial Bench as a platform from which I can take the knowledge Ive gained from years of working with the law, with victims, wrongdoers, survivors, addicts, abused & neglected children, the elderly, and countless others, and apply that knowledge in ways to help improve the community by maintaining liberty and justice in a manner commensurate with the safe and secure lifestyle which we choose to enjoy in Bracken, Fleming, and Mason Counties. ....And to those of you who said, Well, if you really want it, youve got my vote., I say Thanks! Yes, I really do want the job....it feels more like a calling than a desire. Though the responsibilities are great, I cherish the opportunity to give back to the community from which I have derived so much satisfaction and happiness, and to serve all of the people who live here by doing my best to help maintain the peace, harmony, and civility that make us all proud to call this area Home.
