Entertainment schedule set for Boone County Fair BELVIDERE - The magic begins on Tuesday, August 5th, 2014 for the annual Boone County Fair at 8791 Route 76, one mile north of Belvidere and runs for six days through Sunday, August 10th. The Boone County Fair which boasts 153 acres packed with livestock, home arts, entertainment, exhibits, carnival rides, games and food has been owned and operated by the Granges of Boone County since 1957. This year’s fair features up and coming country star Easton Corbin singing his newly released hit “Clockwork” along with his previous number one hits “A Little More Country Than That” and “Roll With It”. Corbin will take the stage Saturday at 7:30 p.m. for a spectacular, high energy show with tickets only $15 and $18. On Wednesday celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Beatles invading America with a two hour tribute of the Beatles by the band ‘American English’. They will be performing songs from 1963-1970 with precise attention to costumes, instruments and special effects. Show begins at 7 p.m. and seats are only $8. Other shows include the popular Next Level Pro Bull Riding Competition on Friday at 7 p.m. with the meanest bulls and toughest cowboys the sport can offer. On Sunday thrill to cars banging and smashing each other in two exciting Demolition Derby shows at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. The Friday and Sunday shows are only $10.00 each. Thursday is a full day of truck and tractor pulls from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for $5.00 with the big show of super stocks at 6:30 p.m. for $10.00. The Queen Pageant starts off the week on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. with young ladies vying for the title of “Miss Boone County Fair Queen”. Admission to the pageant is free. You’ll love our “Free Entertainment Pavilion” filled with six days of bands, singers, various contests including a “Talent Contest” for amateur entertainers 21 or younger on Saturday with free registration starting at 9:30 a.m. New in the Entertainment Pavilion this year will be the beachside music sound of Kevin Burn’s “Good Vibrations Show” from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. For the first time this year there will be Mutton Bustin’ Qualifications on Friday at 1:30 p.m. in front of the Grandstand. Mutton Bustin’ is where children ages 5-10 try to ride a sheep for the longest time. The top 20 from the qualifications will be in the finals Friday evening at 7 as part of the Pro Bull Riding Show. It’s free to enter and free to watch the qualifications. Trophies are awarded at the finals. Sign up on Friday at 1 p.m. at the grandstand. New this year is the Percheron Thunder Show which has to be seen to be believed. A man is driving a team of six galloping Percheron draft horses while standing and straddling Roman style on the backs of the rear pair of horses. They’ll be performing from Wednesday to Saturday in the horse and pony arenas at various times. New on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. will be a cowboy sport known as “Ranch Sorting”. Here a pair of cowboys or cowgirls race against time to move a dozen numbered cattle in numeric order from one corral to another. Also new will be The Dueling Pianos music/comedy team performing several times each afternoon on the Flora Rd stage on the south side of the Non-livestock building Tuesday–Sunday. Back by popular demand is Mama’s Wrangler’s, the family musical group from Las Vegas, Nevada, The Gooseman and his marching costumed geese and other pets, the chainsaw wood carvers known as “The Log Hoggers” and of course a sure bet is those racing dogs with monkey’s as their jockeys in the “Banana Derby”. Enjoy the yearly harness racing Tuesday and Wednesday at noon and antique tractor parade on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Other free shows include ATV racing on Friday at 10 a.m., Elephant Encounter Show, Lance Gifford Magic Show, Magic Mike, and Mr. D’s House of Magic. Alpine Bank’s Kids Day Games for ages 12 and under are Wednesday and Thursday at 10 a.m. each day in the Gazebo park behind Exhibit Hall #3. Enjoy sack races, egg toss, balloon blowing, watermelon eating, and more. Free to enter with prizes and trophies awarded. You’ll also want to see the thousands of champion livestock from rabbits to draft horses, the thousands of home arts from quilts to cakes to photos. You’ll want to visit the hundreds of indoor and outdoor vendors selling everything from candles to corn dogs. Satisfy your appetite at the beautiful new 4-H food stand by the grandstand or the Grange dining pavilion in the center of the fairgrounds. Show tickets go on sale 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 12th at the ticket office at gate 1. Children 10 and under are admitted free all day every day. Seniors 65 and over are free all day Thursday. Free parking. Season tickets $18 in advance, $20 at fair. Gates open for breakfast at 6 a.m. (free admission if you’re coming just for breakfast) which is served until 10:30 a.m. Gates officially open at 8 a.m. with livestock judging also starting at 8 a.m. Indoor and outdoor exhibits open at 10 a.m. Skinner Carnival opens from Noon to 11 p.m. daily.
