Ernsts Family Got $460,000 in Federal Subsidies Despite Sen. Joni Ernsts rhetoric about growing up poor on Tuesday nights State of the Union GOP response, the Iowa Republicans family received hundreds of thousands of dollars in government subsidies, the District Sentinel news co-op reported. Farm subsidy records indicate that the freshman senators father, Richard Culver, has received $38,395 in commodity subsidies and conservation payments; Ernsts uncle, Dallas Culver, has reportedly received $250,000 in federal corn subsidies and $117,141 in additional aid; and her paternal grandfather, Harold Culver, got an additional $57,479 in aid between 1995 and 2001. They built that!!!! In a widely quoted line from her response, Ernst said of her childhood, I had only one good pair of shoes. So on rainy school days, my mom would slip plastic bread bags over them to keep them dry. Wow, another lying Republican. What a shocker. Do you think there are many poor families that got half a million dollars in government assistance? Of course this proves something -- her family wasnt scraping by with bread bag shoes. Shes exaggerating her childhood poverty to make her seem more like common country folk. Some voters eat that up. Guess shell have to wear the bag over her head now and turn in her bootstraps to REAL Republican rugged individualists like Mitt! and JEB... oh, wait...never mind. It is a safe bet that if you are chosen to give the response to the SOTU address that you are a loser in the party; a sacrificial lamb being given the job nobody in your party wants, rebutting a President who gave a speech to a packed house by sitting in a room with only a camera; giving a speech to nobody as really only the hacks and pundits are watching.
