When I think of the hours that I see my fellow artists are putting in day and night, Im beginning to believe that we are clocking in more hours than anyone in the region, yet more likely to be getting little to no pay. The cost of living rising here in Oakland. The demand for artwork is also rising. We as artists need to get a grip on the money conversation. There is just TOO much money happening here in the Bay for artists to be doing anything for free. In five years, I predict were either going to talking about how we got priced out of the East Bay, just like San Francisco before, or were going to be taking pride in the fact that we live in an area with the largest population of artists working sustainable careers per capita. Its really up to us.
