#EthioMuslims The Ethiopian government has started a dangerous game of inciting conflict between Muslims and Christians to prolong its life in power. August 17/2013 Currently, pamphlets are being distributed in various cities with a message that claims to be written by Christians warning their members about “Muslims calling for jihad.” This is a move following the Eid Holiday government crackdown on Muslims returning from the ceremony for the end of the month of Remedan in which many defaming campaigns have been carried out. It tries to imply that the Muslim population in reply to the crackdown is starting war against the Christians. This intention of the regime has been there since the beginning of our protest but it has been so peaceful that the claim could not get a valid ground. The government for the past 18 months has been fully involved in disseminating hate propaganda and provocation by using excessive force on peaceful demonstrators in several towns in the country. Since the Muslim populace is aware of what injustice is being done in the mosques and in the fake court trials against captives, the regime is investing huge amount of resource for the sole purpose of convincing non-Muslims that ‘extremism’ and ‘terrorism’ is coming to Ethiopia. It includes orchestration of forced rallies by administrative Kebeles blackmailing residents through different means as well as producing documentaries aired on the state media terrorizing the public with the imaginary threat. However, their true fear is that Christians and others are actually aware of the legitimacy of our demands and they are supporting our struggle. This latest move of the government is a clear indication that it has lost hope to convince the rest of the people and now is trying hard to demonize Muslims by threatening Christians with allegations of ‘planning to establish an Islamic state and destroy Christians’. The government has plans to organize conferences and meetings in the coming days to propagate this wicked message and the pamphlets are believed to be just the brainstorming stages. Amazingly, these pamphlets are distributed at city streets where the police are in close presence that seems to prove the original source. Though it is not expected that these risky moves would succeed to ignite violence between the people of different beliefs, it is very shameful and worrying to see such irresponsible act from a state government. Such a move aimed at causing serious damage to the peoples of Ethiopia might be very dangerous and the government cannot escape the liability and will be accountable for these immoral deeds. Everyone with a clear state of mind with that desires peace and stability in Ethiopia should vigorously condemn such act. We have been repeatedly advising the government that the solution is not destabilizing the country with forceful oppression of citizens’ legitimate demands but to adhere to the rule of law and the constitution in allowing the people to exercise their rights. Again, we assert that we will not let the government oppress us and deprive us of our natural rights. We are confident that the government will not succeed in starting civil unrest to our great and beloved country Ethiopia. Allahu Akber!
