Even in the wake of a global recession, with opportunity on the rise, it easy to see how The Indelicates lyricism here still speaks to peoples private prejudices towards those NOT born into wealth (i.e. privilege). How did we come to a point where hard work, perseverance, and ingenuity in the face of adversity has less economic value than gentrified pocketbooks? We say that we have changed but we continue to see this ideology play out in the arts, sciences, businesses... Pretty much everywhere you look value is assessed on the merits of material wealth. The Indelicates cynicism about the future of education, I think, resonates my own struggles of being an artist who cannot afford any materials for my work. As I fight to keep my practice moving, I sometimes double-down on my struggle to combat criticism for not creating objects. As the state of things change, the way we class-ify things needs to too.
