Even though I KNOW how bad refined grains, sugar and deep fried food are, today I gave in to the donut at work today. I felt like my craving was out of control and it made sense because (TMI?) Im on my period. Ugh. So, I wanted to understand this lack in judgment/self control. What I found is that during pms the increase in estrogen pumps more cortisol into the bloodstream which stimulates the fight or flight response. Basically my body is freaking out and thinks were not going to survive so wed better stock up on fat and sugar! So now that I understand it, I feel a little better. Knowledge really is power! How I feel has a scientific cause and knowing this helps me to know that Im not crazy, or weak, or a loser, or incapable. Im just a chemistry set. :)
