Candidates can also collect their Admit Cards during office hours from the respective District Units of Employment and Counseling Centre on 27th, 28th, 29th and 30th of January. However, in respect of Candidates of districts of Jammu and Srinagar, the same can be collected from Divisional Office, Jammu/ Divisional Office, Srinagar respectively. The written test shall be conducted from 12 Noon to 2:45 PM on 2nd February, 2014. Planning Commission: The Planning Commission of India (PCI) has cleared another installment of Rs 300 crore under Special Plan Assistance (SPA) for Jammu and Kashmir, which would be utilized for construction of projects already submitted by the Planning and Development Department to the PCI. This would be the second installment under the SPA, which the Planning Commission of India would release in favour of Jammu and Kashmir for the current financial year of 2013-14. The State Government had received first installment of Rs 174 crore worth SPA from the Planning Commission in the month of November. With the release of second installment of SPA worth Rs 300 crore in the next few days, the State would get Rs 474 crore of the total amount of Rs 2074 crore of SPA. Indo-Japan: Source: NSD India and Japan have decided to institutionalize the meetings between their National Security Advisors (NSAs) to further deepen their bilateral relationship. The NSAs will now meet at regular intervals to exchange views on emerging security challenges. The decision was taken after the first ever meeting that National Security Advisor, Shiv Shankar Menon had with his Japanese counterpart, Shotaru Yachi in New Delhi yesterday. Yachi, a top advisor to Japans Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, is heading the Japanese National Security Council which was created this month. Jammu – Bandh: Source: Correspondent Normal life has been disrupted in Jammu today due to strike call given by the Passenger Transport Welfare Association, Jammu in support of its demand for increase in passenger fares for all types of commercial vehicles. As Public transport is not operating in Jammu, most of the schools have been closed and thin attendance is being witnessed in Government offices, banks and other offices. However, private cars and two wheelers are seen plying in the city and elsewhere. It is pertinent to mention here that Transport Commissioner, J&K had yesterday appealed the Passenger Transport Welfare Association, Jammu to call off the strike in the interest of general public and daily commuters. He had assured the Transporters that the proposal for fare revision is under active consideration of the Government following the increase in fuel price and other expenses. PM-Waqf: Source: PIB Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh will inaugurate National Waqf Development Corporation Limited (NAWADCO), a new Central Public Sector Enterprise under Ministry of Minority Affairs, tomorrow. Chairperson UPA and National Advisory Council, Sonia Gandhi will be the Chief Guest at the function. This Corporation will prove to be an important institution for the development of Waqf properties for the community welfare particularly for Muslims in India. The establishment of NAWADCO is a follow up of Sachchar Committee recommendation. India has the largest number of Waqf properties in the world. There are more than 4.9 lakh registered Auqaf (waqf properties) and the current annual income from these properties is about Rs.163 crore. Government of India has recently enacted the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2013.This will make administration of waqf properties transparent and will provide an enabling environment for development and utilization of waqf lands for welfare of minorities. DDC-Doda: Source: Information District Development Commissioner Doda, Mubarak Singh yesterday convened a meeting of officers of Revenue and Engineering Departments in Doda to discuss the status of anti-encroachment drive and widening of various roads in Doda town. Speaking on the occasion, the DDC asked the officers to maintain strict vigil over private construction works going on in the district and asked to ensure that no Government land or property be encroached. He underlined the need to adopt a proactive approach in dealing with anti-encroachment drive and directed the officers to work in close coordination so that bottle necks, if any, are removed instantly. He stressed the need for the successful completion of this drive. Lala Lajpat: Nation remembers freedom fighter, Lala Lajpat Rai on his 149th birth anniversary today. A number of functions are being organized across the Country to mark the day. Popularly known as Punjab Kesari, Rai advocated the Swadeshi Movement and led the boycott of all imported goods in the early 1900s. Born on January 28, 1865 at Dhudhike in Punjab, Rai breathed his last on November 17, 1928 after becoming a target of a lathi charge by the British Police on a procession led by him to oppose the Simon Commission. RBI: Source: NSD Reserve Bank of India today raised the key policy rate by 0.25 per cent to 8 per cent in a bid to curb inflation. The move that may translate into higher EMIs and push up the cost of borrowing for corporates. Releasing the Third Quarter Review of Monetary Policy in Mumbai today, RBI Governor, Raghuram Rajan said that the reverse repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility will be revised to 7 per cent. However, the RBI kept the cash reserve ratio unchanged at 4 per cent as liquidity seems to be comfortable. The RBI Governor said that inflation is a tax that is grossly inequitable, falling hardest on the very poor. He said that inflation has to be brought down to sustain growth in the medium term. The Governor said economic growth will be below 5 per cent in the current financial year and can accelerate to 5.5 per cent next financial year. Governor –CU: Source: Information Governor, N.N Vohra yesterday visited the site of the upcoming Campus of the Central University of Jammu at village Bagla in Raya Suchani, district Samba where he was briefed by Vice Chancellor, Dr. Sudhir Bloeria and Project Consultants and those in charge of the ongoing construction of the Campus about the Master Plan of the University, Phase 1 and the progress achieved so far. The Governor observed during the construction of the Campus, topography and contours of the site should be kept in mind. The Governor had a detailed, on-the-spot review of the under construction Distance Education Block and was briefed about the basic and supplementary facilities to be created in this as well as in other complexes which are presently under construction. Srinagar recorded a low of 0.3 degree Celsius. Mercury in Qazigund settled at minus 1.6 degree Celsius. The Temperature in Pahalgam plunged to minus 10.4 degrees Celsius. In Gulmarg, the mercury registered a low of minus 11.0 degrees Celsius. Kupwara, in north Kashmir, recorded a low of 0.1 degree Celsius. The mercury in Leh, in the frontier region of Ladakh, dipped by more than four degrees to settle at a low of minus 13.0 degrees Celsius. Rather-GST: Source: Information After holding a series of Pre-Budget consultation meetings with the stake holders at Srinagar, the Minister for Finance, Abdul Rahim Rather yesterday initiated two days pre-budget Consultations at Jammu. The several Associations called on the Finance Minister during today’s six hours long marathon meetings. Speaking on the occasion, the Finance Minister said that the Pre-Budget Consultations is a joint exercise between the stakeholders and concerned Government agencies for drawing broader outlines of a blue print for pragmatic and people friendly budget that could satiate political, economic and social aspirations of the people. The Minister also assured the participants in the Pre-Budget Consultation meetings that the proposed Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, being implemented throughout the country shortly, will be introduced in J&K State after taking on board all the stakeholders. He said that the interests of Trade and Industry shall be fully safeguarded while implementing this biggest ever tax reform in the State. PM-Science Congress: Source: PTI Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the 101st Annual Indian Science Congress at the Jammu University Campus in Jammu on February 3. Convener of the Press and Media Committee of the Science Congress, Professor Neelu Rohmetra said that around 8000 delegates including academicians, young scholars and scientists and the students, are expected to participate in this Congress. She said that based on the theme Innovations in Science and Technology for Inclusive Development, it is maiden mega academic event in the history of Jammu University. The five-day event from February 3-7 will have 14 sections and sessions, besides, the plenary sessions, Science Communicators Meet, Science Exposition, Childrens Science Congress, Womens Science Congress and so on. PoK-Malnutrition: Source: PTI Over a third of women and more than 20 percent of children in remote areas of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) are facing a serious problem of malnutrition, according to a survey by a United Nations agency. World Food Programme-funded surveys in four districts along the Line of Control (LoC) - Muzaffarabad, Haweli, Hattian Bala and Neelam Valley - showed 38 per cent women and 21 per cent children were malnourished, said Saqib Bukhari, a programme manager for the project. The survey in Neelam Valley was based on a sample of nearly 23,000 women and 8,000 children who were examined last year. Neelam Valley is located along the LoC and has been exposed to militant conflict for two decades, the report said. The report said the conflict had left many women widowed and children orphaned, and caused huge losses to public and private property. The region was also affected by a major earthquake in 2005. LA Panel: Source: Information The House Committee of State Legislative Assembly constituted to ascertain the factual position regarding the illegal encroachment of wetlands met here under the Chairmanship of MLA, Mohammed Yasin Shah. Threadbare discussion was held on the series of issues and the Committee decided to constitute a panel to study the ground situation at all wetlands and submit report to enable the Committee to make further recommendations. Legislators presented their valuable suggestions to contain the said encroachments. The delegations of Progress Harmony Development (PHD) Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Institute of Public Opinion, Sales Tax Bar Association, intellectuals and some prominent academicians met the Minister and his team of senior functionaries of the Finance Department and put forth their suggestions for next year’s budget proposals with an aim to make it pro-people and trader friendly. Speaking on the occasion, Rather assured the delegations that their genuine and thought provoking suggestions would be kept under active consideration while finalizing the budget proposals. He asked them to contribute in mobilization of revenue resources which is imperative for economic prosperity and sustained development of the State. The Minister said that despite, limited resources, the Government has been trying to provide maximum tax concessions to the trade and industry.
