Evening !... Hope you had a good day today and looking forward to another fall weekend better than the rainy one we had last week....Last night, I finished with moving into our second home in West Newton, and explained that it was smaller in size, located on a state owned road with a set of rail road tracks and trains running on the hour, every hour,, and thank God within a couple of years the tracks were gone, re placed by a state owned toll road, the Massachusetts Turnpike, going from Boston to the New York state line... anyway, our home was a vast improvement over the first house Pa bought and we as a full family settled in and were happy in our new home.. Pa could walk to work, we kids could walk to school, at that stage I was in the sixth grade, went to school with many of my neighborhood kids as a result it was an easy transition from the catholic school I went to, to the Horace Mann school, it was fun and easier for me because I was at least two grades ahead of the other kids in the sixth grade with me. Pa and Ma decided that there were things they wanted to do to our new home, besides paint and paper, Pa wanted to break a wall and open up the kitchen area and the dining room, it made both rooms look bigger, and brighter, the yard had a chain link fence around the whole lot, but he decided to put hedges on the inside of the fence, open up, a driveway on the side of the house giving us two driveways to park two cars, one in the front with the entrance just off the main road, and the other on the side entrance to the house. what was missing that Pa insisted he had to have was a small garden to plant his tomatoes, peppers, squash, beans, corn, parsley, and cukes.. he sectioned off a spot In the back yard, had loam brought in, poles for the tomatoes and beans and got it ready for the veggies to be planted in May of our first year there, the outside of he house was Brown oil stained and Ma was not happy with it, so Pa hired a painter who changed it to a beige color and it really looked great, across the street was the Johns store, like a 7/11 store and Ma loved having it almost in our yard, a couple of feet further was Barbours Farm Market, for all the vegetables you would want and seasonal things like apples, Pumpkins, in the fall.. I remember that what took us some time to get used to was the traffic of cars, trucks, the buses, then the trains. but it was amazing how we got used to it, turned out to be no big deal. as we lived in our new home each day got better and better and we were happier and happier.. I can still see Ma loving how much easier it was to take care of it, everything was easy for Ma and as a result, Ma was at her happiest that Id ever seen her, and you know that its said that A happy wife, makes a happy life for Pa and us kids too.. we lived in our kitchen for all our meals, and the family room for TV and relaxing.. the Dining room and Living room were used only when we had company, those rooms were so clean, you could eat off the floor, were like Mas show place.. but our family room was were we loved to be every night, and Pa still had a room down cellar to bring home shoes to sew, a kitchen that was used when Ma would cook her tripe, or a big roast or turkey that took time to prepare, they also loved to make their Italian sausages, fresh and dried, I was lucky enough to be the taster of the meats , make sure the sausage meat was seasoned properly enough pepper, salt, etc. Ma would sauté the meat in a little frying pan, and I couldnt wait to get a fork or spoon and , nine times out of ten, it was perfect.. Pa and Ma were in their 40s and we were in our teens, to tell you the truth those days were the happiest times of our lives for all of us gone but never to be forgotten by me for sure.. tomorrow night I will continue, and hope you will enjoy hearing my story... see you tomorrow night, God Bless...
