Evening Sights and Sounds The storms and the rain have trimmed-off and clouds began to break into chunks that resembled huge piles of discarded cement. Beyond the clouds, patches of blue shown as puzzle pieces scattered across a kitchen table and beyond that, the faint gold tones of the sun setting over the salty gulf waters. The air was still and the fronds of palms hung heavy over the beaches as a raven cawed and flew to the corner of a coral building, landing on the roof’s edge, it sat motionless, black, and as deep as night. Somewhere, not too far off, doves were cooing, sounding like the lonely whistle of a tug on the river. And I thought, this is not a terrible end to the day. It is just that is has been a terrible day and that is almost finished and I have a good night to look forward to and tomorrow will be perfect. –M.D. Mynhier
