Evening light and clouds passing over rock formations in the Grand - TopicsExpress

Evening light and clouds passing over rock formations in the Grand Staircase. I had a fantastic solo adventure through Grand Staircase Escalante and Pariah wilderness in October. Just a stunning area to hike and explore that I highly recommend. Watched the stars from the rocks that night and listened to some coyotes nearby... just what I was hoping for. The Grand Staircase is a vast geological region of tilted terraces composed of roughly 1.7 million acres. Viewing from the south the terraces form chromatic steps vermilion, white, gray and pink. These escarpments expose some 200 million years of the earths history in a sequence of geologic shelves. The region I was shooting is composed primarily of Jurassic sand dunes solidified into Navajo sandstone and pillowed lava from ancient undersea eruptions.
