Event 1 and the season have officially begun. For those who haven’t been to JXP, there has been major changes, the field has now be rotated 90 degree to stop balls bouncing over netting a completely covering cars and as well, more tents available for staging from EPPL and lastly better chef’s for the BBQ (Jesse’s Girlfriend, Kim) Starting with the upping comers; 3man day was probably the most even ranking we’ve seen so far. We had two dominating new teams, however from 3rd to 7th place there was a point differential of 50 points. Games were extremely close! This season we have 13 teams in 3man, while we had only 10 teams at event one, we can see that a lot of players have been practicing in the off-season. I cannot stress enough how much this help teams. The prelims had 4 teams continue on to the finals with, Nemesis from Peticodiac, Sharp Shooters from Picto County, SS Retribution from Bridgewater and the PEI team from BeyondPB camp. Semi Finals were hard fought, however pulling through the pack was Sharp Shooters and SS Retribution heading to the finals. With a race to 2, both teams scored a win and came down to the 3rd point. With players switching sides of which they started with, the game was a tough battle ending in a 1 vs 1 and SS Retribution taking the win! 1st – SS Retribution 2nd – Sharp Shooters 3rd – PEI BeyondPB 4th – Peticodiac Nemesis With Day 1 complete we move to day 2. While I am not playing much ball this year, nor am I playing in day 2 games. I was EXCITED! Either A to see old friends or B simply to see the excited back in everyone for the start of the season. This wasn’t your typical layout of big run downs and crazy moves. This was slow play, get a kill or two and maybe move to your secondary. Only 3 games went to time. Most others were drawn out with LONG points. There were 2 noticeable things this year. Shock I was EXTEMELY impressed with, while the scoreboard doesn’t give justice, this team has come a LONG way since last year, no more goose eggs or 1 point on the board. They are a contender. They scored multiple points and usually when points were lost it was with the opponent only having a body or two left. Huge improvement, eager to see E2 with them. As well Lameque Impact. This team came into this event with no experience to what Xball is. Its one thing to watch it on webcast, it is another bag of worms to play it. Coming to Event 1 with 6 guys and 40 pods is TOUGH! For any team, you need a pit crew, you need sidelines and you need pods. While there first game was the school of hard knocks. As the day continued they improved. Stay alive longer, killed more bodies; faster pod runner, and getting more organized in the pit! Anyways I digress, with prelims finishing we moved into semi finals with Halifax Hitmen, Fred. Aggression, Moncton Spartans and Northport Warriors moving on. Halifax went 4-0 vs Fredericton as if Hitmen was truly sniping out the competition. From there we went to game 2, Moncton vs Northport. WOW First point was 8 minutes long. With the score toward the last points 2-1 for Moncton, Northport couldn’t push enough to tie the game. Which would send Moncton to the finals against Halifax. This game was great. Truly both teams were deserved to be there, but more so wanted the First Event victory so bad. I have to say I’ve never seen Jordan (Tubby) move, kill and want show his team is here to be a Victor. Each point Halifax won you heard a roar in the pits and on the field. Last point, Halifax had to hold Moncton off for 1:42 minutes. While usually this is plenty of time to score a point or two for teams. On this layout you usually needed 3-4 minutes. With that being said, time ran out and Halifax took the win of EPPL Event 1. 1st place – Halifax Hitmen 2nd Place - Moncton Spartan 3rd Place – Fredericton Aggression 4th Place – Northport Warriors We would like to congratulate our winners from Event 1, and are eager to see Halifax and Retribution hold their spots for Event 2. As well we’d like to Thank KEE for the amazing Ultra Evil paint, and the Prizes for the pod toss we had on 3man day. Also thank-you to Capital City Paintball of Fredericton for the help, BeyondPB of PEI for the booths to help players see and try products. Ron and Sue Maillet for their help on 3man day for scores! And lastly JXP for their continued and awesome hospitality. Without them, teams would be driving further! We will also be making 1 minor change. Teams will be forced to having their pod runner wear either a Red or a Blue Long sleeve to show which team they are on. (league will supply this, and returned after each match) I’m extremely excited to come home to N.B. again in June for event 2. We currently have a poll for which layout to be used for Event 2, Chicago or Dallas. We will post the results on Friday of which field will be used. We want to help our players that play afar and locally to so that we can be better prepared for layouts. My last note; we had a lot of people ask for T-shirt’s and want to sport EPPL attire. We will have T-shirt for sale at Event 2. We got our Graphic designer Mike Burke of Amherst to help make us some pretty sick Shirts. Thank-again, and see everyone at EPPL Practice 2 and for those that cannot make it, EPPL Event 2 for the Big Show! Jeremy Maillet
