Event Title: Art and Activities at the Blanton’s Third Thursday Event Description: Join us for our free evening of art and activities. Enjoy an extended happy hour in the Blanton Cafe, featuring a glass of wine and a slice of gourmet pizza for just $5. 5:30PM – Beat the Rush Skip rush hour traffic and join us for live music in the galleries by Redd Volkaert, a Grammy-winning country guitarist. 6PM – Screenings at the Blanton: Gerhard Richter Painting The process of creation is explored in this film, which depicts the famous German artist as he paints and treats the canvas in real time. Several of Richter’s works will be on display as part of the exhibition Lifelike. Contemporary art scholar Katie Geha will speak about the film, the exhibition, and Richter. Running time: 97 minutes. Located in the Blanton Auditorium. 6:30PM – Art Gazes Art Gazes is a new series of gallery talks featuring slow, contemplative conversations about artworks in the Blanton’s collection. 6:30PM – Yoga in the Galleries (Space is limited; Passes distributed beginning at 5:30PM) 7:30PM – Art Glimpses In contrast to Art Gazes, the Blanton’s Art Glimpses series presents a more fast-paced, lively gallery session featuring multiple artworks in the Blanton’s collection. Free Thursdays and Third Thursdays are supported in part by the Austin Community Foundation.
