Ever had a day from hell? I did today, courtesy of APEC! Went for gas. There was a policeman in every gas station! He took my Canadian license and called for backup! 30 minutes later, a paddy wagon arrived and a police car with 2 police! This was the beginning of a 2 hour ordeal! Luckily I had photos of my passport and visa on my IPad. Apparently, Huijia Human Resources forgot to register me so to them I was an APEC threat! After 2 hours and a whole lot of phone calls from police who were supposed to speak English, the nice police officer gave me back all my documentation and told me not to buy gas until after November 15th when APEC ends. They seem to have this idea that people who ride motorcycles will turn their vehicle into a bomb and drive into a political gathering! Do I look like a suicide bomber? ....Went to WalMart to shop and drove home through the park as I always do. NOT today....as I got to the park entrance I was stopped by about 30 (special) policeman. I just said APEC and he nodded and indicated I could not travel through the park. I cant even imagine why! Got home, stored my groceries and noticed my IPad was nowhere to be found! CRAP! Sped back to WalMart and with my receipt they went immediately to the camera that filmed me! (EVERYTHING IS ON CCTV IN CHINA). I watched myself pay for groceries and head out with the IPad placed in the kid seat area of the shopping cart! I was pissed because I knew I left it in the buggy! Went home and stewed for a few hours. Finally went on the Internet and read how to retrieve a lost IPad! IT WORKED! I downloaded a program and on my IPhone, I could see where my IPad was in Changping! I drove to the location but it was a 5 story apartment block so could not know exactly where it was! Went to the police station to show them and see what they could do. The finder program lets you lock the IPad so it cant be used and you can send them your phone number and a message along with a ringing sound! I sent my number and a message in Chinese that I knew which housing complex they were in and that it would be better to call me, get the reward and return my IPad as opposed to dealing with the police! My phone rang in seconds and the police organized a meeting for us in front of Changping #1 highschool! She showed up with her son and my IPad but would not accept my reward no matter how hard I tried! Such an honest lady! I gave her a hug and told her that if she ever needed my help for anything, to call on me! I get the feeling Ill be teaching her son a few English lessons! A small price to pay to get my IPad back! Thank you Apple for having such a great recovery program!
