Ever play Monopoly? It was one of my favorite games in my childhood. I loved to watch my sister, Joan, try to come up with money to pay off the rent. It was only later that the point of the game made sense; to have ALL the WEALTH!!! When someone cant pay their rent, or fine, or whatever, they are out of the game and their resources go back to the bank. The last one with money wins the game. Does that sound vaguely familiar with what is happening in our economy? Have you read stories about people losing their houses? Going to jail because they cant pay a fine? Ending up on the streets because they ran out of resources? THATS the point of Monopoly; to demonstrate the real effect of greed and poverty. The right has demonized the phrase wealth redistribution. The right accuses the Democratic Party of wanting to redistribute wealth. In other words, they want all the people of America to believe that any system that redistributes wealth back into the system is wrong! I now ask: Whats wrong with the idea? If we redistribute wealth by taxing the extremely wealthy, thus making the tax system more fair for everyone, we could maintain the social programs so people dont end up in poverty and/or on the street, spend our money on programs that benefit the most people with jobs and stop giving the wealthy tax breaks. Wouldnt that be a good thing for the most people? This present method were in is only destroying the middle class. Wouldnt wealth Redistribution be something we, the country, should be proud of? Wouldnt that make the United States the envy of the world once again? Then why dont Democrats proclaim that goal? The masses would certainly support it. The reason, in my opinion, that people are afraid of this issue and the Democratic Party wont claim it, is because the Rs have been so successful in making us think its wrong! If we dont convince the country that wealth redistribution is a great idea, we are going to lose this Monopoly Game called the American Economy!
