Every now and then, the Mayor and I have interesting conversations - TopicsExpress

Every now and then, the Mayor and I have interesting conversations about KPD’s recruitment, our budget, community concerns about crime, and internal operations. But recently during my bike ride last Saturday morning, I happen to bump into him at the Kapaa Swimming Pool during a swim meet. We talked briefly about the progress of my campaign and the difficult challenges that lay ahead. Before he left to go to another engagement we shook hands and gave each other the bradha-bradha hug with the customary two pats on the back. He told me to be careful and I wished him well and waved as he drove off. During this brief encounter, there was no animosity, no distrust, and no pretense about the issues that occurred over 2.5 years ago. It was just two public servants having a respectful conversation which is always the case. The reason for mentioning this is because there are rumors going around that there is considerable conflict between the Mayor and myself that would negatively impact the Council’s relationship with the Administration should I be fortunate enough to be elected. If you heard those rumors or were uneasy about what had occurred, I want to assure you and put your mind at ease because there are no conflicts with our relationship. We believe in the same thing, and that is to serve the community as best we can, to the best of our ability. So, if you hear something negative about the Mayor and I, please set them straight. I would really appreciate it, because for some reason that urban legend is being fueled by unknown sources. Also, I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is that during a pick-up basketball game with some of my KPD friends at Kalena Park on Tuesday, I learned that my new knee replacement worked great. I was able to run and cut without pain. The bad news is that because I had not played for over 20 years, I stumbled and fell on my side, and may have torn a muscle in my upper ribcage, or I may have a hairline rib fracture. It hurts like a son-of-a-gun and I am considering going to the doctor. But, all is good, because when I’m healed up, I’ll be able to play some basketball again. Now that’s something to celebrate...hooping once again. Take care. See you at the Farm Fair. Darryl
