Every time Thatcher plays Paul Desmond’s “Take Five,” he takes it a little further. A little faster. A little more out there. But this time, Thatcher took “Take Five” further out than anyone at the Narrows Center for the Arts had expected. He took them by surprise. That’s what he did. And when Thatcher exploded at 2’29’’ into a finger-melting speed solo, the audience celebrated Thatcher’s guitar-work with cheers, with whistles, with applause. Minutes later, they erupted again.
