Every undercover investigation The Humane Society of the United - TopicsExpress

Every undercover investigation The Humane Society of the United States conducts affects me, but the utter misery that laying hens endured at the Butterfield Foods slaughter plant in Minnesota shocked me to no end. This first-ever investigation of a “spent hen” slaughter plant showed battered and broken birds from battery cage facilities throughout North America trucked to this plant, which slaughters about 85,000 chickens a day. We found live birds forced into a scalding water bath; manhandling of very fragile, starved, birds; and overcrowding and deprivation and exposure to the cold during long-distance transport that would make any conscious and aware person sick to his or her stomach. There are no federal humane treatment laws to protect them, and that should alone lead good people to demand reform – least of all to continue consuming the products of this industry. See the details in my blog today, and yet another reason that business as usual in the chicken industry is entirely unacceptable.
