Every vehicle is prone to wear and tear. Car owners would know - TopicsExpress

Every vehicle is prone to wear and tear. Car owners would know this especially well. But do you know what some of the causes of wear and tear to ships are? Constant exposure to seawater hastens rust; rough seas may potentially break the stanchion (ship’s railing); or engines and generators running continuously for weeks during operations reduce efficiency. That is why the ships need to undergo maintenance from time to time again. And NALCOMs Force Generation Squadron (FGS) is the one who takes charge of the planning, tracking, preparation and management of these maintenance works. It’s a job easier said than done. Besides making sure our ships are shipshape, FGS plays a vital role in ensuring that our ships are fighting fit, and that systems on board are in tiptop condition. Be they marine, electrical, network or combat systems, and as well as sensors and engines, FGS is always ready with a comprehensive maintenance or upgrading plan for these systems. There are definitely challenges along the way, very specific to the maritime environment our ships operate in. But we have great teams in FGS that are willing to take on these challenges and overcome them. Like for myself, I handle the submarines and it is always fulfilling and satisfying to hand over a submarine thats good as new again. – ME2 Tai Wei Jie, Dex, Combat Systems Engineer, Submarine Maintenance Engineering Centre “Generate for Strength” – the motto of FGS. Thank you FGS, for playing an important part in driving our Navy’s full potential!
