Every year, on the 22nd of June a group of hikers from the Perpinyà Youth, light a torch from the fire that has been lit in the Kitchen of the Mansion Museum, the Castle of the Perpignan ( French State), and climb to the summit of the Canigó-Catalunya (2,784 meters) where they light a new fire after having read a ritual. At the dawn of the 23rd of June, the group starts descending the summit with the new flame. Along with the "cercle jove" hikers, a lot of other people gather up at the top to begin the journey to different parts of Catalonia, Valencia, Andorra, Rossello, and the western fringe - by foot, bike, car, and even lute, in order to spread the flame into cities and towns- arriving on time to light bonfires on the night of San Juan. Every year, the Canigó flame is received by the Parliament of Catalonia along with municipalities, councils. cultural and social entities during an official ceremony. As a result, thanks to the hundreds of volunteers, the fire coming from the mountain illuminates the ceremonial dances that are made around the fire. It is estimated that 3000 torches light up the night, with the fire coming from the Summit of Canigó, inside the territories that have adopted the Catalan culture within the French and Spanish states.
