Every year, when the new autism number come out, I get depressed, I get angry, I feel helpless. What does it take to make YOU care? Does it take you having a child with autism? I wouldnt wish my version of autism on anyone. My son, JR, is almost 37, has severe non verbal autism. I have never heard I love you mom from him. He lives in a residential institution for people with severe mental retardation. They take good care of him and I am grateful for that but I will never stop wishing, hoping for a real life for him. I wouldnt wish his life on anyone. The numbers that were announced today are 1 in 68! You think it doesnt affect you? It does even if your kids are ok. You and your kids will have to support my child and the 1 in 68 like him. Care now? If it doesnt affect you directly, does the fact it affects your pocketbook make you care?
