Everybody who knows me knows that a significant part of my life - TopicsExpress

Everybody who knows me knows that a significant part of my life was impacted by the 1960s TV show DARK SHADOWS. It not only framed my (then-burgeoning) aesthetic sensibilities, but certainly had an impact on my notion of female beauty. Brittany in DEADBEATS owes quite a lot to Nancy Barretts Carolyn/Millicent/Charity/Melanie (there are a few more). I found out much later that Nancy is a genuinely sweet person (and shorter than I am--who could have guessed?). Lamar Rickey Hawkins --more widely known as Lara Parkers --exquisite enchantress Angelique was emblematic--not only in her startling beauty, but also that she, as an actress, could make so many awful actions seem understandable that eventually the writers started scripting her character as more sympathetic, more a real person than a one-dimensional villainess, with so many layers (which, unfortunately, the character in subsequent iterations has never been portrayed so well ) that Angeligue eventually became the Leading Lady of the show. I also think that its a major life point for me that the wonderful Kathryn L Scott shattered the boundaries of being a victim/governess/someone who needs protection and impressed upon me the notion that smart, strong women had a place--even in gothic soap operas. I guess that Im thinking about this because theres another DARK SHADOWS Fest coming up. I hate to travel, so I dont know if Ill be attending, but its really tempting. All three women are scheduled to appear.
