Everyone here knows Im a huge Pentatonix fan - and their newest video is absolutely brilliant. Its a complete re-invention of the original famed video from Stromae - yet tells the same story in an entirely new way. The performances are wonderful, and the video editing and makeup are terrific. While its a studio recording, the audio editing has a light touch so it doesnt seem overly processed. Papaoutai, meaning Dad, where are you? is a song originally written and performed by Belgian singer Stromae. It hit the number 1 spot in Belgium and France and was the best selling single of 2013 in Belgium. The Stromae video was an incredibly popular video that shows a young boy trying to interact with his unresponsive father (played by Stromae) who sits motionless, his expression and body resembling that of a mannequin, while outside other fathers and sons dance together. In the end the son joins Stromae on the sofa, assuming a rigid, lifeless position identical to his fathers. It refers to the absense of Stromaes father, who was killed in the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. Be sure to watch both videos and see how they tell the story in such remarkably different ways.
