Everyone wants to change the world but nobody wants to wash the dishes. -mother Teresa In the streams I have found myself in, some who have heard the message of son ship and grace have taken some form of entitlement from it and applied it to their perspective of life. I dont have to do something Im not comfortable with, doesnt make me feel fulfilled, or I simply dont like. This is foolishness at best, even Jesus grew in favor/wisdom/stature with God and man. As well, he shared in the parable of the talents about 3 men who were given opportunities and 1 of the three men did nothing with the opportunity and so it was taken from him and given to someone else who used their opportunity. The third guy was communicating through his actions (too hard, not worth my effort, etc). This kind of behavior communicates that I view my effort/time as more valuable than others. I recall a story about Heidi baker, on their compound in Mozambique the outhouse style toilets need the spider webs removed from them periodically, (down where the poo goes). One time this job needed done, no one would do it, not the iris staff, missionaries or Mozambiqan locals. So Heidi went jumped down into the poo and cleaned out the spider webs herself. I parallel this to peter refusing to wash feet at the last supper (and pouting about his recognition/spot at the table) and then Jesus grabbing up peoples feet and washing them himself. If we are always comfortable with what we are doing, then we never need comforted, so then we never need the comforter. I remember in my time in Mozambique, during a teaching, Heidi began to tell us that some us would be shot, stabbed, and killed for the gospel and where God was sending us. Around the room some people began historically laughing and some crying, others looked on in shock with worried glances. Heidi then told us, dont get freak out, God gives the grace (divine ability) to handle things. The people who were laughing at the idea of injury and death were carrying and living out of that grace. While Im certainly an advocate for the message of sonship and grace, I cant afford to delude myself into believing tasks are beneath me. I cannot expect to have a dream job unless I embrace the opportunities I have in front of me currently. I cant hope for healthy relationships if I dont invest in the ppl around me now. We are groomed in this experience called life through experiences. Love, time, and mystery are three major channels of which experience flows. We must absolutely know our identity, Gods heart for us AND all humanity but this has to transfer to how we manage whats in front of us. ( family, jobs, finances , resources, etc) or its just words, beliefs, and ideas that have no substance.
